The First Ladies of Riggs

Inside Our First Lady Suites

The First Lady Suites at Riggs Washington DC are four one-of-a-kind suites, each designed around the personality of a woman who once ran the White House. Designed by Jacu Strauss, each suite offers a king bed, separate living room and a marble bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub. What sets them apart is the story each one tells.

The building was once known as the "Bank of Presidents." It felt only right to give the women beside them a room of their own.

The Ida McKinley Suite: A Floral Fantasy

Ida McKinley, wife of William McKinley, the 25th President, adored flowers and plants. Her suite feels like an abundant bouquet, layered in pink, purple, green and yellow.

It's the most romantic of the four, ideal for an anniversary weekend, a proposal, or simply a stay that feels like spring in any season.

The Caroline Harrison Suite: A Porcelain Story

Caroline Harrison, wife of Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President, started traditions the White House still keeps. She began the collection of presidential porcelain that grew into the White House China Room, and she was the first to decorate the residence for the holidays.

Her suite pays tribute in blue and bone white, with decorative porcelain throughout. It's calm, collected and a quiet favorite for an elegant escape.

The Louisa Adams Suite: Music and Merriment

Louisa Adams, wife of John Quincy Adams, was the consummate host, known for White House evenings full of music. Her corner suite comes with a working petite grand piano, a gramophone for your own music and art inspired by string instruments.

The living room was designed for entertaining. Invite friends up for drinks before dinner or play a few bars yourself.

The Angelica Van Buren Suite: Unapologetic Extravagance

Angelica Van Buren was Martin Van Buren's daughter-in-law, stepping into the role of hostess after the President's wife passed away. Said to be one of the country's first socialites, she loved European furnishings and culture.

Her inviting corner suite leans into the spirit of socializing with rich jewel tones and city views.
